Coordination Authority, OCA, needed to centralise and integrate
the control of a wide range of audiovisual, security, street lighting
and numerous other systems employed at the Homebush Bay Operation
Centre facilities. Each having its own interface employing different
protocols and methods of control increased the complexity of the
task required.
Some of the elements requiring integration into a central system
were;
· Audio Routing via Creative Audio Digital Audio System
· PA address via Zones
· TV Monitors
· Video projectors
· Clipsal C-Bus Street Lighting System with auxiliary input
modules
· Philip's Security Camera system via Burle Switcher
· Scheduling system
· Database management, interrogation & updating
· Monitor and display car park statistics dynamically
· User Level and access control
· User log
· Network based control
· Chubb Alarm monitoring
· Scheduling and display via network
Methods of communication and control of the various systems were
as follows;

· Serial via RS232 & 485
· Infrared
· Contact closure
· Serial data monitoring and response
· Fiber Optic network
Case Study - OCA - Sydney 2000 Olympic Games

After the OCA had carried out a careful evaluation of the systems
and technologies available, Medialon Manager was chosen to install
a system to be operational in time for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Among some of the benefits of the Medialon Manager control system
are the following;
· Ease of customisation.
· Wide range & flexibility in addressing various systems
& protocols
· Flexibility when adding additional devices or interfacing
with other software programmes.
· Modular approach when programming.
· Scalability.
· Proven track record in "Mission Critical" installs.
· Infinitely flexible approach to GUI creation
· Wide range of interface "MxM's" plug ins
· SQL/Database interface flexibility
· European HQ trained technical staff available locally
in Australia
· Locally established office of manufacturer - Medialon
SA
The Medialon Manager designed system allows duty personnel from
different State Authorities to log on and access predetermined levels
via the Medialon Manager GUI at whatever Workstation they choose.
In the final installation there are 22 Workstations each having
a touch screen PC with the Medialon Manager GUI installed.
From these Workstations, individual control of all the devices
listed above is available. Also routing of audio & video signals
at the touch of a button on the purpose designed GUI. A password
logon feature built into the Medialon Manager application determines
the degree of control and access permitted.
The Medialon Manager GUI enables the user to select a zone or group
of audio zones and then make live paging, play prerecorded WAV files
and listen to the output of any of those zones or groups.
The GUI interface allows the user to override the Clipsal control
software so that any individual group address may be activated thus
allowing control of any group of street lights, individual Water
Feature controls in the Homebush area. The system also allows for
the monitoring of the access alarms and UPS unit failures.
Automatic response to external triggers and conditions is part
of the Medialon Manager design for this exciting installation. Medialon
Manager communicates via the various protocols listed above, over
the entire Homebush Bay area network from Stadiums to Street Lighting,
from Railway Stations to Ferry terminals, from sports facilities
to Road & Traffic Authority HQ in another suburb.
The installed system for the Sydney 2000 Olympic games was even
featured on national TV News programmes, Channels 10 & 7. A
copy is available on request. The system was also given a serious
inspection by the visiting Greek Olympic Authorities.
Medialon Manager performed with complete reliability during the
Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Medialon Manager has become an integral
& permanent feature of the central OCA control system at the
Homebush Bay Operations Centre.
